MedGym Local Services and Programs
MedGym Local will tailor a program that is specific to your needs as no two people are the same.
Each program starts with an assessment session which forms the basis of the design of your individualised program.
LIVE LONG, LIVE STRONG Program
This is our primary and premier offering. The program runs over 8 to 12 weeks and is designed to focus on specific and measurable goals. Each participant is assessed individually in regards to their fitness and strength then their medical conditions are reviewed to build a specific program to their needs. No two people are the same. Evidence strongly suggests that 2 to 3 exercise sessions per week are required to achieve the best outcomes. At the conclusion of the program we reassess the participant's progress and encourage the them to continue building on the gains in the program.
- The program starts with 3 individual sessions each one on one with the exercise physiologist. Each session is dedicated to: initial assessment, program design, and 1st program run-through respectively.
- The main body of the program consists of 24 fully supervised small group sessions (max 6 participants) (eg. 3 sessions per week for 8 weeks or 2 sessions a week for 12 weeks).
- The final session is the program review consultation - a 1 on 1 individual session for reassessment, and recomendations on further exercise (at the gym or outside).
Each session runs for 45 minutes. The program is flexible to accommodate individual circumstances and requirements.
The program fee can be subsidised by private health insurance rebates (Exercise Physiology), Medicare if on care plan arrangments (5 sessions in a calendar year), DVA (D904 referral) or NDIS, if eligible.
Diabetes Program
The program is for those with Type II Diabetes. The program is designed to assist patients with the management of their diabetes through a series of exercise sessions and educational presentations including goal setting, behaviour modifications and healthy food choices.
This 8 week program will be run periodically throughout the year. The first session is a one on one assessment which will include baseline measurements and fitness testing. The 8 week course of once a week sessions will then take place.
This particular program is Medicare subsidised and requires a GP referral (under a care plan for Type II Diabetes group services). These group sessions do not count towards the general 5 Allied Health consultations but are only available to those with Type II Diabetes.
The cost of the program is caped, with the first initial consultation bulk-billed and group sessions will have a small gap fee of $10 per session.
Short programs
Our aim to get everyone involved in exercise. We understand that often a full commitment to twice or 3 times a week exercise program may be difficult due any number of reasons.
In this case we offer short programs that may involve an assessment and the design of an exercise program that can be carried out outside our gym: at home, other gym, hotel gym if frequently travelling, or utilising outdoor time or incidental exercise. The exercise program can be structured to include other recreational activities such as swimming, walking, playing tennis, golf, etc.
We would recommend regular, for example 3-monthly, follow up, review and fine tuning to continue achieving ongoing improvements.
All sessions in this program would one on one with your exercise physiologist.
